This started off as just an experimental vector of a big cat. A lot of people do cats, but I've never really tried before. Once I got the cat coming along the page looked empty so I started riffing on framing elements and put together this poster look.
Below is the original vectors. Everythign was done in Illustrator CC with the pen tool. I used only fills, no strokes, no brushes, just a lot of clicks. This is a mirrored design so I vectored up half and flipped it over.
Finally, my initial sketch which I used as a guide. As you can see, quick, dirty, and definitely not fancy.
